I purchased this camera to use whenever I didn't need my 1D (too heavy to carry around Disneyland). It's been just about a year and so far, I absolutely love it and gave it a 5 star rating and here are the reason why:
Ease of use: coming from other Canon bodies, the controls and function of the camera was a breeze. Infact, some new items in the menu, such as My Menu, allows you to add your most used functions and is very easily accessed. I've heard Nikon users complaining that Canon controls are difficult and not layout well. Newsflash: Canon is a completely different system and therefore, is going to be different. I can control my Canon by touch in total darkness, but put a Nikon in my hands, I'm lost.
Image/Picture Quality: it's a Canon with a full size sensor. They are the pioneers and leaders in CMOS sensors for DSLRs and their dedication shows. I have no probem shooting ISO1600 and often shoot ISO6400 without much thought. I shoot mostly L series lens and the colors recorded is simply amazing. Not over saturated like the other brand cameras, just really natural colors. Beautiful for shooting people, as well as nature.
Video Quality: at first I was very hesitant to accept the fact that my DSLR has a built-in video camera. Once I got used to the idea of having a video camera and once I started tinkering with it, I was amazed. Full HD video shot between stills, then all combined into a slideshow is just awesome! The actual video quality is breathtaking. Just like anything else full HD, the clarity seems too good to be true. Sound is OK, but if I were to do more video capture with my camera, I would definitely purchase an external mic. If shooting video is your thing, there is NO better video camera out there. You can spend K on a video camera, but bottom line is, the quality isn't going to be as good as the Canon 5DMKII due to the size of the image sensor. As far as I know, there are no video cameras with an image sensor that's comparable to the Canon 5DMKII. What's more, you can use any of the Canon lens to shoot video with.
Weather Sealing: there seem to be a lot of people out there concerned about the quality of Canon's weather sealing. My experience with the weather seals have all been positive. I've been in sand storms (desert), full down pour raining (Alaska, Hawaii, etc), and even extreme dust (popcorn ceiling scraped, walls torn down, drywall dust everywhere) and so far, NOTHING, NO DUST inside the camera! That's amazing! I'd say the camera is pretty well sealed against the environment.
Durability: Don't let the lightweight magnesium alloy body fool you. Just because it's light doesn't mean it's weak. It just means it's easier to carry and handle all day long. I was walking and shooting a subject one day and tripped on a curb. I fell over and managed to not land on the camera, but the camera's body did strike the side of the curb. Yes, it left a gash mark down to bare metal, but the camera is still totally fine.
BOTTOM LINE: great tool. Best camera I've ever used.

I'd originally ordered this camera and some other minor items from another vendor then a few days later I noticed Cameta had this camera package, which was basically everything I'd already ordered for much less. I cancelled the original camera order since it hadn't shipped, but the accessories were still coming so I just left them. I figured eventually I'd use a spare camera bag and more memory cards and batteries are always nice.
Because of the price break I was able to order 2 day shipping, which arrived... in two days. The camera, lens, and memory card was exactly as ordered. The "Bonus accessory kit" was pretty much junk as I expected. I gave the bag to my kids along with my old Canon Powershot S1 IS and I think they destroyed both in short order. I was happy overall and I'd saved a bit of money ordering from Cameta. I would definitely order from them again.

Five Crucial Factors to Help You Choose a Digital Camera For Your Travels
When choosing a digital camera for travel, the choice of available models can be overwhelming. Here are five crucial factors to help you decide on the most suitable digital camera for your particular travel needs.
1. Type of Travel
a) Organized tour with transport arranged and secure baggage handling -- you can afford to take a bigger, more expensive camera as you'll be traveling in a group with good security, so you can carry a camera round your neck or on your lap when traveling.
Recommended: a good quality digital compact camera with at least a 3x zoom lens, but preferably a 10x zoom for more flexibility; if budget allows, a digital SLR with one or two lenses as you will be able to carry a separate camera case.
b) Independent traveler, making your own way, using public transport -- security will be a problem and you want to carry as few bags as possible.
Recommended: small, compact digital camera that can be stowed in a pocket or hand-bag. Don't go overboard and buy a very tiny camera, as you pay a premium for these. Today, small digital compacts with 3x zoom lens are capable and affordable.
c) Budget, back-packing, staying in hostels -- you'll be traveling light with minimal carrying capacity, with security a potential problem.
Recommended: small, inexpensive, inconspicuous compact you can keep in a pocket or fanny pack with other valuables like your passport. Cut down on fancy features such as extra megapixels or face recognition, but do go for 3x zoom for flexibility.
2. Nature of Trip
a) Vacation to a beach or resort hotel -- security should not be a problem, so you can carry a camera bag, allowing more gear.
Recommended: most shots will be scenics -- pictures on the beach or around the pool, plus people pictures, so don't need a powerful 10x zoom lens. Rather go for a 3x zoom that's as wide as possible at the wide end of the zoom. You can fit a lot more into a picture at 28mm (equivalent) focal length than at 35mm. Alternatively, if budget allows, a digital SLR with a wide angle zoom lens, but can be a burden to carry around.
b) Emphasis on sightseeing, visiting historical sites -- need flexibility with big zoom range, from wide angle to telephoto.
Recommended: digital compact with 10x or 12x zoom that allows you to zoom out wide for expansive shots, as of cathedral exteriors and interiors, then lets you zoom in on the details. Also useful for urban/street photography, so you can sit at a café sipping coffee and take a variety of photos, from buildings to candids of buskers, without having to move.
c) Outdoors, safari -- if a rugged hiking trip, then weight is paramount, but less so if going on an African safari.
Recommended: for walking or hiking in the mountains, a light, rugged, digital compact with a 3x or 5x zoom lens for taking scenics and informal shots of your travel companions. For safari, if you want to capture the wildlife and not just the countryside, then a compact superzoom (10x or more zoom range) is a good choice as you'll be viewing game from a vehicle where space can be tight. If you're serious about your wildlife images, then a digital SLR is the way to go, but try to keep lenses down to two because of space constraints.
3. Your Interests
a) Buildings, architecture, historical sites -- need wide angle capability to include exteriors of large buildings and tight interiors.
Recommended: digital compact with good built-in flash, plus ability to shoot at high ISO for interior shots without flash. Where possible go for image stabilization, allowing slow shutter speeds in dim light. Must have a 3x zoom at the minimum, as wide as possible on the wide end, or even 10x zoom for taking in detail -- but again make sure it's as wide as possible when zoomed out, e.g. 28-280mm rather than 35-350mm.
b) People, locals, candid shots, reportage -- need telephoto capability so can shoot from a distance, unnoticed.
Recommended: definitely a 10x to 12x zoom with emphasis on the telephoto rather than wide angle side. Preferably a black camera that's not too bulky and conspicuous. A small digital SLR is an alternative, but you'll need two lenses to cover the range you'll get with a compact superzoom.
c) Local countryside, landscapes, agriculture -- wide angle will be important and generally you won't need a strong telephoto lens.
Recommended: digital compact with 3x zoom should be fine, but select one that offers the widest angle within the zoom range.
4. Your Budget
a) It's not an issue -- go for a good digital SLR with at least two lenses; alternatively, a top-of-the-range compact digital with wide zoom range. A recommended SLR choice would be a Canon entry-level Digital Rebel SLR with a couple of Canon EF-S lenses, like the EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 plus EF-S 55mm-250mm f4-5.6 IS, giving you a 35mm equivalent focal length range of 28 to 400mm.
b) Up to $300 -- if size is not an issue, then go for a 10x or more zoom as these cameras offer the most flexibility. Can use at home for group shots, candid portraits, and sport.
c) Tight, $200 maximum -- there are plenty of very capable cameras in this range, so look for a recognized brand name (Panasonic, Sony, Olympus, Pentax, Nikon, Canon), skip fancy features like extra megapixels and go instead for benefits like optical zoom in the 3x or 5x range, and rechargeable batteries with charger included.
5. Picture Use
a) Share with friends by email, on Facebook, have postcards printed. Here quality is not an issue, so any modern compact digital camera will suffice, even the cheap ones.
b) Same as above, but also want to blow up some of your photos to hang on walls, have calendars made. In this case, image quality is important, so you'll need a camera with a good lens and, if possible, the ability to shoot at higher ISO without excessive "noise" becoming visible. Here digital SLR cameras can't be beaten as they keep noise down at higher ISO settings while also allowing you to crop images and still make big blow-ups.

I bought this camera mainly to shoot pictures and video of my 1-year-old baby boy. So far, I have shot a couple thousands of pictures and a couple hundred video clips. My wife and I are very pleased with the performance of the camera.
What I like about this camera:
1. The size is compact enough to fit it into my jacket pocket or hang it around my neck for all day long. Every time I travel with my baby boy, I need to carry a lot of baby care stuffs with me. I need a camera lighter and smaller without creating too much burden.
2. The camera provides decent low light performance up to ISO 800 and ISO 1600 is still usable. My baby is still young and most time stays home. I, therefore, took lots of indoor pictures. The camera handles low light environments very well.
3. Shooting HD video give us plenty of fun. As far as I know, this is the only dSLR (except GH1) in the market that offers HD video feature with Auto Focus feature and limited but enough controls. Babies grows fast and they make lots of funny movements. I could not ask my baby to repeat a good movement when I miss one. The camera allows me to switch video mode easily when I catch the moment. It is nice to have both video and camera features in one machine.
4. The camera offers fast and accurate auto focus. Babies move constanly and hardly stay still. Occasionally, I missed a couple shots but most of time the camera gives pretty good results.
Of course, with the cost of 0, you can buy an entry level dSLR with cheaper price and better image quality due to the bigger sensor size as opposed to four-thirds standard. It all depends on what you need. I have no regrets with the purchase because it fulfills all my expectations.

Wide-angle zoom lenses are one of the most important photography lenses that every wedding photographer should have, typically 17mm to 35mm in length with a fixed aperture of f/2.8. They provide a large depth of field, making it simple to have foreground and background in focus. They are an indispensable wedding photography equipment which allows versatility in confined areas such as a small banquet room or crowded dance floor. While shorter photography lenses allow you to capture more details, wide-angle zoom lenses allow you to capture more reactions and atmosphere to tell a richer story.
To elaborate further, wide-angle zoom photography lenses allow you to shoot a wider perspective of moments happening around the major subject, hence providing a bigger picture of the entire event. This is essential for a good photojournalistic wedding photography. As events surrounding weddings are so time sensitive, good photography lenses will allow you to capture as many actions or emotions in the quickest time as possible.
When used in a venue such as the church or ballroom, wide-angle zoom photography lenses also magnify the grandeur and spaciousness of the area, which encapsulates the creative feel for a photojournalistic wedding photography.
However, you need to be selective of the scenes or actions using wide-angle photography lenses, as a caveat to shooting wide is that it creates some body distortion, particularly when a subject is photographed close-up. Generally, people tend to look heavier and shorter on the edges, while arms can look huge. The last thing you want is to have the bride cursing you for making her look like she has put on 10 pounds! To get around this problem, you should as far as possible avoid putting the bride and groom at the edges of the wide-angle distortion. In addition, wide-angle photography lenses might also introduce distracting or unwanted elements into the frame, which would otherwise ruin a picture perfect moment.
Wide-to-Telephoto Zoom
Wide-to-telephoto lenses are the single most important photography lenses that a wedding photographer cannot do without. They should ideally be lenses that cover somewhere around the 20-70mm focal length range with an aperture of f/2.8. This ideal range lets you get wide enough to take a group photograph and close enough to capture facial emotions in your candid shots or a three-quarter portrait of a couple without the undesirable effects of wide-angle perspective distortion. They also double as good lenses for portraits. Given just this lens, you would be able to capture most of the shots needed for a wedding decently well.
Image-Stabilized Telephoto Zoom
Image-stabilized telephoto zoom lenses are also essential items in your wedding photography equipment checklist. The 70-200mm focal length is an important range for wedding ceremony photos. It allows you to give your subjects more space in situations where you don't want to get in the way. As you will often be photographing down the aisle from the back of the church, image-stabilized telephoto zoom lenses will come in very handy. 200mm is long enough to be able to take 3/4 length images of the bride and groom exchanging their vows while staying at a reasonable distance away from the action and 70mm is wide enough to take in the bridesmaids or groomsmen as a group without switching photography lenses.
A good point to note is that when using such photography lenses, nice blurred background can be achieved with maximum wide apertures of f/2.8 and long focal lengths of 200mm or 300mm, whether you are using a full-frame or a small sensor body. This allows you to isolate the subject from its background, and to focus attention on the image as the main subject you want to portray. Such photography lenses are especially useful for shots where you are unable to get in close and for intimate and private moments, where you want to be an unobserved stranger at a distance. Some examples include a stolen glance, a mischievous grin, a kiss - the details that are effectively conveyed by the emotions. Image-stabilized telephoto zoom photography lenses hence play an important role in capturing such moments.
These image-stabilized telephoto zoom photography lenses aren't only good for blurry backgrounds or shooting events from a distance. They could also be used to photograph stunning facial close-ups from creative angles above or below the subject that don't exhibit the normal distortions of large chins or shrinking heads that come from wider photography lenses.
Yet another advantage of such photography lenses is that you can use the small-sensor camera's 1.5x crop factor to your favour. The 200/2.8 long end of the standard zoom effectively becomes 300/2.8, a lens that would cost $4000 for a full-frame camera. The effective 300mm length allows for more creative photo angles than shorter photography lenses, such as tightly cropped images of the groom's hands lifting the bride's veil or the bride and groom's hands while they put rings on each others fingers.
The obvious disadvantage of image-stabilized telephoto zooms is that in many cases, long photography lenses tend to disconnect the subject from the main scene and there might be little to no context as to why the subject may have had expressed how they were feeling, the whereabouts of the subject and who else was there.
When using a small-sensor camera as your primary or backup body, the other disadvantage of image-stabilized telephoto zoom lenses is that neither Nikon, Canon or Sony make an f/2.8 lens that gives you an effective 70-200mm focal length. Hence, you would have to pay the high price and carry the weight of photography lenses designed for a full-frame camera.
Canon's Image-Stabilization, Nikon's Vibration-Reduction and Sony's SteadyShot INSIDE systems are indispensable in allowing you to hand-hold these large and heavy long photography lenses, especially in low light situations. Every wedding photographer should ensure that the image-stablization and vibration-reduction features are available on their long lenses. You might also want to consider using a tripod to ensure continuous, accurate subject placement and sharp photos. Such telephoto zoom photography lenses are huge investments and if you have a budget constraint or an amateur just starting out, you might want to consider rental instead.
Prime Lenses
Prime lenses are essentially photography lenses with fixed focal lengths, as opposed to zoom lenses, which have variable focal lengths of say 24-70mm or 17-55mm. Prime lenses generally have a better optical quality than zoom photography lenses, and usually come with wider maximum apertures such as f/2.8 or f/1.8.
Good prime lenses are must-have photography lenses for any wedding photographer, as they are excellent for taking good portraits. Although you will be adequately equipped for a wedding shoot with the three zoom lenses in your lens kit as discussed above, it is worth including two to three fast prime lenses in your bag as well. These photography lenses are compact, light, and fairly inexpensive and would probably be needed in about 10 to 20% of a wedding shoot.
Faster prime photography lenses are ideal in situations where f/2.8 aperture is not enough to get the motion-stopping shutter speed or shallow depth of field desired, whether for artistic or technical reasons. For example, an image that requires a 1/20th of a second shutter speed at f/2.8 will only require 1/60th of a second at f/1.8, forming a distinction between a sharp image and a blurry one. Many professional wedding photographers actually include prime lenses in their gig bags as an economical backup to their zoom lenses. Not many people could afford to purchase an additional 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto lens as a backup and you also want to prevent a frantic situation whereby your photography lens fails on you during a crucial moment.
There are many prime lenses available on the market but most photographers would include a 28/1.8, 50/1.8, and 85/1.8 in their prime photography lenses kit to be used on a full-frame body. The 28mm is wide enough to cover most ceremony locations and confined spaces, the 50mm is good for small groups or a priest blessing a couple, and the 85mm is long enough for ceremony vows and exchange of rings. A wedding can be successfully photographed with just these three photography lenses.
When you make a well-informed choice on the right photography lenses to use, it will definitely elevate your wedding photography to a more professional level.

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to photography, but we invested in this camera when expecting the arrival of our first child. It has been worth every penny. What's the Difference Between Point-And-Shoot and SLR?
I often get asked this question and the smart aleck in me always says the word price. An SLR camera is going to cost you more than a point-and-click. But a more appropriate answer is features. An SLR camera gives you much more ability to refine your shot than a point-and-shoot. Don't get me wrong. You can take some amazing shots with a point-and-shoot camera. It's just you don't have the kind of control as you do with an SLR.
SLR is an acronym for Single Lens Reflex. Without getting too technical, this type of technology uses mirrors and a pentaprism (five-sided prism) to reflect light from the lens to viewfinder. There's more to it than that but you get the general idea.
The most glaring difference is for an SLR, the lack of delay when you are pressing the button. People who have used point-and-click cameras know all too well about that dreaded delay, although there is a way to circumvent that: you hold the button down 1/2 way until you are ready to shoot. An SLR camera simply doesn't have this problem.
You can use different lenses with an SLR camera where this feature is typically missing in a point-and-shoot. This only really becomes important when you are looking to become a more advanced photographer. If you are only interested in taking decent photos and don't know an apeture setting from a f2, you will probably want to stick with a point-and-shoot.
The differences in SLR cameras vs. point-and-shoot is like night and day. It is similar to comparing and instamatic camera with a 35 mm camera. There are so many more features on an SLR than on the point-and-shoot. Of course, you will pay a hefty premium for those extra features. But they could be well worth as you expand your photography horizons.
